Mom And Me: Rori’s Three Month Session

Milestone photography is a major subject for family photographers. From the time of your child’s birth, we’re there to document the treasured moments throughout that first year. Newborn photos, typically followed by 3, 6, and/or 9 months. And of course, we can’t forget the One Year session! That first year is full of baby props (Baskets and Buckets and Signs, Oh My!), reflex smiles and full on laughter, sitting, rolling, crawling, squeaky new babe sounds and cheerful babbling. Above all, snuggles and tender quiet time to connect with your baby. That last one is my personal favorite. There’s so much visible adoration and happiness in every cuddle, and it fills my heart with boundless joy to be able to capture something so precious. A milestone photographer documents many things, but most importantly,

they document love.

I loved her, instantly. Of course, most parents love their children instantly. But I mention it here because I still find it a remarkable thing. Where was that love before? Where did you acquire it from? The way it is suddenly there, total and complete, as sudden as grief, but in reverse, is one of the wonders about being human.

There was no shortage of snuggles during Cortney and Rori’s Mommy & Me photo session, and the chill that evening lent itself to even more cuddle time. When asked if I prefer warmer or cooler temperatures for family photography sessions, I always say cooler and this is one of the main reasons why. Families are less likely to be close when they’re hot and sweaty. Give me big fuzzy blankets and kiddo cuddles any day!

Every girl deserves her time to shine. This was Rori’s moment, and I can’t get enough. Rose gold shoes, boho headband, and don’t even get me started on her eyes! So perfect!!

Breast feeding & Motherhood

Motherhood is not always easy or glamorous, and I’m quite certain many Moms would prefer to be gifted a long nap on Mother’s Day! There is a quote I read on IG a while ago that, I think, drives this home.

“I know it’s hard Mama. I know it can be hard to get up every day and have these little people rely on you. I know it’s hard to feel like sometimes your world is so small. I want to remind you that you are the world. You are the world that those little ones revolve around. You are their nurture, their home and their comfort. You are everything to them, and I hope even on your hard days you know how special you are. Especially to your little people.” - Anonymous

As a woman and a family photographer, I’m beyond thrilled that breastfeeding photo sessions are becoming increasingly popular. All the hardworking mamas out there deserve to be celebrated, cherished, and recognized for the effort it takes to be a mother, and breastfeeding photography is one (albeit small) way to do it.

Much like that quote, I hope the photographs I take of every mother—breastfeeding or not—brings them a little more joy and a little more recognition. I hope they feel special and strong and beautiful, and above all else, I hope they feel loved.

The natural power of breastfeeding is one of the greatest wonders of the world. It is about real love. It is about caring and celebrating the wondrous joy of nurturing a new life. It is about enjoying being a woman.
